The Hive exhibition at The Birley Centre

It was such a wonderful opportunity to showcase the beautiful work of the Hive artists at The Birley Centre last weekend in their exhibition "a tree full of birds" The artists took inspiration from the local Sussex landscape, and Victor Pasmore’s 1979 painting “a tree full of birds” to create artworks that speak about our relationship with the environment.

Eastbourne Mencap supports people with learning disabilities to achieve their dreams and ambitions, build confidence and develop new skills. They offer a wide range of workshops and activities, both onsite from The Hive Day Centre and offsite in the local community.

At Eastbourne Studio Pottery, we have been leading workshops with a group of artists from the Hive since 2019. We were delighted to share the work made by the group over the last few months with this exhibition at The Birley Centre funded with a grant from The Duke of Devonshire’s Charitable Trust and the generous support of Eastbourne College.

All works are for sale via the Eastbourne Studio Pottery website. All funds raised from the sale will support the workshop and activity programme at The Hive.

With huge thanks to Elizabeth Doak for her wonderful portraits of the artists and the fantastic images documenting the exhibition.
